Saint-François-Xavier cathedral

The present cathedral (1922) of Chicoutimi, classic style with a mixture of Romanesque and Italian Renaissance is oriented toward the north. It replaces the first 2 (1878-1915) burned in 1912 and 1919. Its facade is dedicated to St Francis Xavier, patron of the Cathedral, the diocese and the parish.

The Cathedral is majestic. The frescoes of the dome showing the "Christ in Glory" with the Father above and St. Michael the Archangel below. The nave is dominated by the "dual platform" (loft). The Casavant organ is located at the 2nd forum. Before the west pillar of the choir, a red wooden statue decorated with gold leaf represents St. Francis Xavier. The temple also has several stained glass windows and rosettes.

Since December 3, 2006 there is the heart of Bishop Racine, 1st bishop of the diocese.
